Divers celebrate new year with cold splash

Local News

ERIE, Pa. — The annual New Year’s Day tradition at Dobbins Landing continues.

With temperatures around 34 degrees, dozens of divers plunged into Presque Isle Bay.

Divers from the Erie County Sheriff’s Department Scuba Team, Blue Dolphins Skin Divers and Erie Skin Divers Club gathered for fun and rescue training.

“We all love diving,” said Norma Carey, president of Erie Skin Divers Club and co-captain of the Erie County Sheriff’s Department.

“So, what better way to start the new year than doing something that you love?! So, we’re all here to get together, collaborate, and have a good time and start the new year off with a dive.”

Established in 1967, Erie Skin Divers Club is celebrating its 50th anniversary.
