A day that began with kayaking with a friend ended in the death an East Springfield teenager.

Timothy Campbell, 17, drowned in a private pond on Sunday.

His kayak collided with an another kayak, then tipped over. While his friend made it out, Campbell was stuck under water for more than four hours.

The private pond was on Thatcher Road in Conneautville.

Campbell was found 10-feet deep in the water. The Crawford County Scuba Team said Campbell wasn’t wearing a life jacket.

“If you’re going to be in the water, swimming, boating of any type, just wear a life jacket,” Jason Hudson Chief of the Crawford County Scuba Team said.

In Pennsylvania, the same safety regulations apply in all waterways including private ponds. More than 30 rescuers were at the pond Sunday looking for Campbell.

We’re told the diver who found him was his former elementary school teacher.
