Elder abuse is becoming a growing problem in the US and today, local seniors were learning how to protect themselves.
June 15th is Elder Abuse Awareness Day. GECAC’s Protective Services is taking the lead showing seniors not only how to protect themselves, but how to stay connected and be aware of abuse whether financial, emotional, physical, or sexual.
Pasquale Casane, GECAC Adult Protective Services Director, tells us, “About 5 years ago, we were taking in about 300 to 325 reports in a year. This year, we’re on track to make 12 hundred reports”.
If you suspect elder abuse, call GECAC Protective Services at 814-459-4581, Extension 400.
