EmergyCare: Shortage of paramedics in northwestern Pa.

Local News

There is a shortage of paramedics in northwest Pennsylvania according to EmergyCare.

Currently, the ambulance service has four openings for paramedics, and said over the last few years it has noticed a trend in declining paramedic candidates.

EmergyCare said it is being proactive to combat the trend, by introducing its paramedic academy last year, which trains candidates in an eight-month course designed to properly certify applicants.

“A lot of people are taking the paramedic and becoming nurses you know moving up throughout the industry, so you can kind of move so as everybody moves up and moves forward sometimes there isn’t the backfill,” EmergyCare public relations coordinator Ashleigh Montagna said.
