It’s a sure sign that summer is near when Waldameer Park opens for the season. But, in order for the fun to begin, there’s some prep-work taking place to get ready for the season.
Employees spent today testing out the rides and making sure everything works properly for when they swing open the gates at noon on Saturday.
Steve Gorman, the park’s President, says, “This is our final week before we open before for the season and we are doing all of our final inspections and testing all of the rides.”
Gorman says they had an inspector come in to check out the rides. Waldameer has a couple of new additions to the park this year including a new balloon race ride. “This new ride will be very fun. I think it’ll be a big hit with the young families and young children.”
And, according to VisitErie President John Oliver, Waldameer attracts visitors near and far. “The whole amusement park/water park is a huge part of our tourism product.”
Oliver says the park also helps out the Erie economy. “People that are coming in that are staying overnight, are using our hotels, they’re in restaurants, they’re shopping, visiting the other attractions… including the beach.”
Waldameer will open on Saturday at noon and people can enjoy the park until 8pm.Gorman says there will also be new food options in the Cookie and Fudge shop.
