Presque Isle State Park can get pretty crowded this time of year, but a program now in its second season is helping keep the crowds moving.
Welcome aboard the Presque Isle Express, a free service route that takes the riders from the West Erie Plaza around Presque Isle State Park and back. It’s a partnership between the park system and EMTA and staffers are already seeing a number of benefits.
Matt Greene, Operations Manager, says, “It allows us to lessen the impact on the natural resources down here by moving people down on public transportation, we have less vehicle impact on the park, less congestion, less carbon footprint on the park so environmentally it makes a lot of sense for us as well…”
The Presque Isle Express will stay on the road throughout the busy summer, even helping out during the park’s busiest event.
Jeremy Peterson of the EMTA says, “Discover Presque Isle is the end of the month. Our Presque Isle Express will loop from Beach 11 to Water Works so we want people to come down park their cars on Beach 8 and feel free to take a free ride on the Presque Isle Express”.
The Presque Isle Express runs weekdays from now through August 24th. The hours are from 12-7pm and the route makes 14 stops in a complete loop from the West Erie Plaza to Beach 11. There is no charge to ride.
