Erie Catholic Diocese finalizes compensation fund plans for victims of sexual abuse

Local News

The Erie Catholic Diocese is finalizing plans to create a compensation fund for the victims of sexual abuse.

Bishop Lawrence Persico announcing today the fund will be independently administered, which he first proposed in August.  This comes on the same day other dioceses around Pennsylvania unveiled plans for their compensation funds.

Attorney General Josh Shapiro is pushing for an expanded statute of limitations for past victims. He released a statement reading, in part, “the grand jury recommended that victims deserve their day in court.  Not that the church should be the arbiter of its own punishment”.
