Erie City Council gave final approval to new restrictions against open burning and new fines.

Open burning is not allowed if the winds are above 10 miles per hour, and bonfires, recreational fires, and the use of outdoor fire places must be attended until the fire burns out.

Fines begin at $25 for the first offense and escalate to $100 by the third offense.
