Erie County Council takes a step towards mapping out the region’s future

Local News

Erie County Council is taking a step towards mapping out the regions future.

The council passed an updated Land Use Map during last night’s meeting in Fairview.

Every several years the Erie County planning department insures all of Erie County that they will keep the Land Use Map up to date.

It is designed to help the 38 municipal governments involved manage their anticipated growth.

“It goes from areas that are still in rural use, to areas of future growth, and present growth,” said Carl Anderson, Erie County Council Member.

The council also had a first reading of an ordinance placing short term rentals, like Airbnb properties, in the same category with hotels, which would tax them at the same rate.

The change would make the local law consistent with state law. It could be voted on at the council’s next meeting in September.
