While Erie High School gears up for football season, the Erie Insurance Arena gears up for hockey.
It seems like only yesterday that the Otters were vying for the Ontario Hockey League Champtionship; now crews are already making the ice floor for this year’s season. Starting at 7am today, crews worked on painting the lines and logos on the concrete. When that is done, they’ll start laying the ice.
They have 25 employees running three shifts throughout the weekend. Assistant Director of Sports Facilities, Ed Snyder, tells us, “We put down about an 8th of an inch of ice, just clear on the concrete… We put another 8th of an inch down that’s white and we seal that in before we put the lines and logos… When we’re all done it’s about an inch to an inch and a half thick.”
Training Camp kicks off for the team this Tuesday.
