ERIE, Pa. — Warner Coin Machine is hosting the 35th Annual VNEA Pennsylvania State Pool Tournament this weekend at the Bayfront Convention Center.
The three-day event (Mar. 10-12) is the fourth largest 8-ball tournament in the country, according to Rodney Didion, the tournament coordinator from Warner Coin Machine.
He said 2,700 players are participating this year with up to half of them from out-of-town.
“It’s a lot nicer in this convention center,” said Jim Cherry, of Franklin, who has played in the tournament for 15 years.
“You get everybody together. It’s all done in one weekend, and it really helps a lot,” he added.
The participants and spectators also help. They pump an estimated $500,000 into the region.
“We have 2,700 people that are here for the weekend. We have over 180 room nights booked just down here on the Bayfront, and we have people staying up on the highway, as well,” said Didion.
Team competitions will continue Sunday, Mar. 12 at 9 a.m.
