An Erie priest is now home after praying at the legendary Muhammad Ali’s funeral Friday in Lousiville, Kentucky.
Monsignor Henry Kriegel of Saint Patrick’s Parish was invited to pray at Ali’s funeral by Ron DiNicola – Ali’s long-time attorney.
Kriegel says Ali wanted every religion to represented at his service and he was honored to represent the catholic faith.
He says it was an amazing experience.
“It was an incredibly healthy experience for the black community. They obviously just have great affection for him. And there were a 100,000 people in that procession. People touching the hearse, people throwing flowers on it. And yet there wasn’t one single incident. It was incredibly peaceful.”
Kriegel says it was also amazing to see the impact he had on everyone that attended the funeral.
