Erie remembers victims of Srebrenica genocide in Bosnia

The city of Erie is joining communities around the world in commemorating the 23rd Anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide in Bosnia.

The International Commission on Missing Persons puts the number of men and boys murdered in the July 1995 massacre at more than 8,000.  In Perry Square today, residents and community leaders held a moment of silence to remember the lives lost.

Survivor Edin Selimovic tells us that people must know how genocide begins in order to stop and prevent them.  "The people in power used their propaganda, ideology and turned friends against friends, neighbors against neighbors."

In Bosnia today, 35 victims that were identified by DNA over the past year were laid to rest.  More than 1,000 victims remain unidentified.
