The Erie School District released the following statement:

“The board and administration of Erie’s Public Schools would first like to thank the Erie Fire Department, EMS, the Erie Police Department and the Erie School District Police for their quick response to the crisis this morning. We are working closely with the fire chief to determine the cause of the fire. It is our understanding that the fire started in the horticulture lab but we don’t have any further details at this time.
Due to the extent of the fire, we have decided to cancel classes for the rest of the school year for both Central Tech High School and Roosevelt Middle School students. Once we have clearance from the fire department that the building is safe, we will contact students with instructions on how to retrieve personal items.
We will provide additional information as it becomes available but, for now, we just want to express our deep appreciation to the entire community for their support.”

We will have more details on this story as it develops.
