Celebrate Erie is drawing out-of-town guests, including international visitors by boat.
Several marinas along the Bayfront are docking Canadian boaters. The Presque Isle Yacht Club expects to see about 15 Canadian boats this weekend, up from five on any given summer weekend.
The club says members make arrangements and move around boats to create more space for visitors during the festival.
Vice Commodore for the Presque Isle Yacht Club, Robert Wilson, says, “In terms of the boaters, the Canadians have followed this event for some time. They plant their flags on the reservations very, very early. In fact, we get reservations as early as April or March of each year.”
The Yacht Club says the economic impact extends beyond the marina as guests patronize nearby restaurants and buy fuel for their boats.
