The city of Erie’s bulky item pilot program is proving popular.
Since June, the city has been collecting one to three large items per household. Residents must make a reservation at least 72 hours ahead of their regular weekly trash pickup, and they must receive a confirmation.
The Department of Public Works says it receives about 10 reservations each day. Because of high demand, some residents may need to wait a week for large items to be set out.
Director of Public Works, Dave Mulvihill, says, “It’s been going very well. We’ve been getting a lot of calls. People have been giving feedback saying that they’re happy that we provide this service.”
The pilot program will continue through the end of August. At that time, the city will study its feasibility.
