Fairview woman graduates college, thanks to organ donor

Local News

A Fairview woman is beating the odds, crossing a major accomplishment off her to-do list.

Brittany Grimm is crossing the stage at Seton Hill University in Greensburg, Pennsylvania.  It’s a proud moment for any family, but even more so for Brittany’s.  At just 9 years old, she was diagnosed with a life-threatening heart condition, later receiving a transplant.

Her graduation cap says, “I am here today because of an organ donor”.

She says, “Honestly I don’t wake up one day without thinking about my donor because I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for his decision and his family’s decision to sign up and become an organ donor.”

Colleen Grimm, Brittany’s Mother, says, “It was filled with emotion. Happy for her. You know just thinking that she wouldn’t be here today because of her organ donation, because of her transplant, and just so proud.”

Grimm just earned her degree in communications and will soon start working at the center for organ recovery and education in Pittsburgh.
