Fire breaks out at Channellock in Meadville

Fire crews responded to a fire at Channellock, Inc. in Meadville on Monday night.

Workers from inside the facility, located at 1306 S. Main St., made the call around 9 p.m.

Meadville City Fire Department arrived on scene and discovered a fire between the metal roofing and the wooden support for the exhaust fan.

Neighboring fire departments from Saegertown and West Mead and East Mead townships assisted and quickly extinguished the fire.

Meadville City Fire Chief Evan Hasko said there was “minimal damage. Damage contained to the wooden support on the fan.”

Hasko said the fire appears to be accidental. People were working inside the building, but no injuries were reported.

Channellock, a manufacturer of hand tools, has facilities in Vernon Township and Meadville, which is home to its headquarters. The company employs about 400 people in Crawford County.
