Fire damages an Erie house and sends firefighters on a search for victims.
More than two dozen Erie firefighters were called to 939 West 20th street around 7:15 tonight. Crews were able to put out the flames quickly. However, there is smoke damage throughout the house. The first calls indicated there may be people trapped by the fire. Neighbors then telling the firefighters an adult and an infant could be inside.
“We immediately started a search, a primary search. Nothing was found. In the meantime, a second crew knocked the fire down. We went through the house a second time and were unable to find anybody. So, thankfully nobody was at home,” said Deputy Chief Mike Balliett of Erie Fire Department.
There is no word on a cause tonight. A fire inspector was called in to investigate.
