An early morning fire rips through a building, destroying a major asset to the Conneautville community.
Fire has destroyed Conneaut Valley Health Center along Washington Street in Conneautville. The small town of fewer than 800 residents now without an important asset. The Health Center, operated by Meadville Medical Center, provided healthcare services to families in the area. The building also housed Valley Dental Center.
Seven fire departments responded to the scene shortly after two in the morning. Flames were through the roof by the time crews arrived. Chief Drew Longo of the Volunteer Fire Department in Conneautville says the fire started in the attic.
Burning for more than an hour before collapsing to the first floor. This led to dangerous conditions for the crews. The Health Center services 15-20,000 appointments per year, but the Meadville Medical Center is assuring patients that all of those appointments will be accommodated at other locations.
Denise Johnson, Chief Medical Officer, says, “We are trying to reach out to patients… so that we can call those, especially those that have appointments today, so we can help them get re-accommodated.”
Allen Clark, Mayor of the Borough of Conneautville, says, “This is a terrible loss to the borough of Conneautville and surrounding areas. Many people throughout the whole Crawford County come here to Conneaut Valley Health Center.”
The building was closed and empty at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.
