Fire & police remind city dwellers they still, in most cases, aren’t permitted to set off fireworks

Local News

The city of Erie is reminding people that fireworks cannot be set off within 150 feet of a structure, nor in parks within city limits.

Officials say without a permit, those rules would make the majority of the city off-limits.  Erie Fire Chief Guy Santone says they’re concerned about the potential for injuries and fires. “Anything that goes up must come down. And remember, we’ve had issues before with fireworks when they weren’t sold in Pennsylvania. If it’s dry out, you get hot embers falling down and if it begins to vegetate that could get your house going.”

If you witness someone violating the ordinance, Erie Police encourage you to call the non-emergency number at 814-870-1125.
