Pittsburgh, Pa. (April 24, 2019)—As Adagio Health embarks on a new initiative to provide needed health and wellness services to women veterans in western Pennsylvania, the Highmark Foundation has stepped in to support new outreach efforts to this population. Among those efforts: a spring wellness retreat that will be held in Erie, PA on Saturday, May 4, 2019.

The event is free to all women who have served in the military—and designed specifically to serve as a source of healing and support for women veterans.

“As we were considering how we could expand our services to assist more patients, we looked at recent studies that showed many female veterans have stated a strong preference for receiving care in a setting focused on women’s healthcare, like Adagio Health,” said president and CEO of Adagio Health, BJ Leber. “Those sentiments were especially strong among women who had experienced some kind of trauma while in the military. With that in mind, our goal is to provide a welcoming, safe setting where women veterans can not only receive needed medical care, but can also connect with providers who will meet their mental healthcare needs.  Our upcoming wellness retreat in Erie represents an opportunity to connect Adagio Health with more women who can benefit from the services we offer, and we are so grateful to the Highmark Foundation for their strong support.”

“Highmark Foundation is proud to support Adagio Health with a $25,000 grant to help connect female veterans with much needed resources,” said Highmark Foundation President, Yvonne Cook. “These resources can assist female veterans in Erie with overcoming adversity to become leaders in their communities.”

The Erie, PA wellness retreat will take place on May 4 at the Galbraith Mansion – the Women’s Club of Erie. Planned activities include yoga, a chance to talk about individual stories and experiences in the military and at home, art therapy, workshops on health and wellness, and an opportunity to connect with representatives from a variety of local support organizations.  Complimentary breakfast and lunch will also be served.

While the wellness retreats are free to all women who have served in the military, Adagio Health organizers request that each participant register in advance of the event.  Registration details can be found here: https://women-vet-wellness-retreat-erie.eventbrite.com.
