GE begins $2.5 billion contract with Indian Railways

The GE plant in Lawrence Park is gearing up for a big project.

According to an article in the International Railway Journal, the first of 1,000 evolution series locomotives for Indian Railways was unveiled at the Erie plant on June First.  GE was awarded a $2.5 billion contract in November 2015.  The first 100 locomotives will be built at Erie’s location and shipped either fully assembled or as kits.  The remaining 900 units will be constructed at a new joint venture production facility in India.
