The JET 24 Edinboro University Golden Apple Award has been honored by the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters.
The weekly report, seen Wednesday at 6pm and Thursday at Noon on JET 24, won the 2018 Outstanding TV Feature Story/Report/Series among all TV stations in Pennsylvania, outside of Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. It was one of two PAB awards for JET 24/FOX 66.
JET 24 and Edinboro University have partnered for many years to honor teachers every week during the school year with the Golden Apple Award. The long time series is now in it’s 27th year on JET 24. Each week, the TV station surprises a local teacher in the classroom. Teachers are nominated by students, parents, colleagues, and those who see a teacher making a difference n the lives of their students.
At the end of each school year, all 32 weekly winners vie for Teacher of the Year honors, as decided by a panel of professional educators from Edinboro University.
JET 24 News Director and Golden Apple reporter Lou Baxter said, “It feels so good to walk into a classroom each week to pay tribute to a teacher, because we all have that one special teacher that made a difference to us.” He added, “Golden Apple is a team effort between JET 24 and Edinboro University and we can’t thank the University enough for being our long-tiome partner.”
The weekly reports all 27 years, more than 850 stories, have been shot and edited by WJET videographer Kent Urbanski.
