Governor declares State of Emergency during winter storm

Local News

Before this weekend’s winter storm hits the region, Governor Tom Wolf has signed a State of Emergency declaration for Pennsylvania.

Between 12pm Saturday and 12pm Sunday, a commercial vehicle ban will be in place for all interstates and the Pennsylvania Turnpike, except for Interstate 95 in PA, to allow snow plow crews to have a safer route.

The ban will also restrict the US 22 Expressway in Lehigh Valley and the PA Route 33 Expressway.

Speed limits will be restricted to 45 miles per hour on interstates and expressways.  State officials, including the governor, urge motorists to postpone travel if possible.

“My top concern, and the top concern of everybody here, is the safety of the citizens of Pennsylvania. If you don’t have to travel, please please don’t. Please heed the warnings from emergency responders and personnel, and remember to check on your neighbors. Especially your elderly neighbors.”
