Hank’s Frozen Custard in Conneaut Lake, PA has gained national recognition! Travelpulse.com gave them a nod in their article, ‘Taste the Finest on Frozen Custard Day‘.
But, Hank’s is no stranger to being published. Real Simple Magazine recognized the family owned business in an article back in 2015. They ranked Hank’s 2nd out of 10 Best Places in the US to get Real Frozen Custard.
The business in Conneaut Lake was opened in 1952 by ‘Marg’ and ‘Ernie’ Hild. Marg’s father (Hank) owned a ‘Hank’s Frozen Custard’ in New Brighton, PA and was trying to help the newly weds get on their feet. He told them they could open up another branch of Hank’s, but they had to move out of the area so they didn’t compete with one another. Hank let them use his name for brand recognition. On their first day, they made around four dollars and three generations later, the family business is still going strong.
The frozen custard stand offers vanilla and chocolate, and rotates in another flavor every few weeks. Right now, the special flavor is ‘cake,’ and on August 15th, it will switch to ‘mint’. So, if you missed Frozen Custard Day yesterday, maybe it’s time to head out to Conneaut Lake to check out what all the buzz is about!
