Harborcreek, get ready to fluff your feathers! Township officials have made a decision on chicken ownership. The township has decided to allow residents to own hens, under certain restrictions.
Roosters are not permitted under the new ordinance and the number of hens on a property is limited to 10. To be considered eligible, one must own property that is more than two acres, and the hens must be kept at least 50 feet from bordering property.
“We understand that there is the trend for some sustainable farming,” says Harborcreek Township Supervisor Tim May, “which, we certainly want to encourage. But, also, we don’t want to infringe on the neighbors as much. So, I think we adopted a good ordinance tonight and I think people will be pleased with it.”
Officials decided to postpone a decision on keeping miniature goats until more research is complete.
