Football season is right around the corner.
Local high schools have started practice this week and as part of PIAA regulations, players are limited to how much and how long that they can practice.
The PIAA heat acclimatization program limits players to helmets and shoulder pads with shorts for the first five days. Full gear and contact may not be worn until Monday after completion of the five-day period.
Fairview High School football coach Jim Brinling said due to the hot temperatures this summer, his players know when to stop and ask for help.
“We talk to our players about being honest about how they feel and that’s all that we ask them to do, is to just, you know, if you’re feeling a certain way and it doesn’t feel right then you need to communicate that,” Bringlin said.
In addition to Fairview, several other area high school have also started practicing.
