Highmark Health hosted it’s 13th annual Walk for a Healthy Community event at Preqsue Isle’s Beach 11 Saturday morning. The event brings more than a thousand participants and dozens of nonprofits together to support an array of causes, all aimed at helping people lead better, healthier lives.
All the money raised by the nonprofits attending goes straight back into those organizations. We spoke with Bill Grove, CEO Of the Mental Health Association of NWPA. He told us that they use the money raised here to fund their warming center which is open when temperatures dip below freezing.
The Community Blood Bank used funds from previous years of this event to purchase their mobile blood donation bus. This bus allows them to collect blood from donors who cannot travel to Erie to give blood.
All in all, the event raises money for these organizations to help anyone who may be interested in what they offer. From home healthcare services to therapy dogs and even cycling enthusiasts, a wide range of organizations took part in this year’s event.
