The Erie community is coming together to provide hope for the homeless.
One of CNN’s Top Ten Heroes, Dr. Jim Withers, is in town for the Hope for the Homeless Conference.
Withers started providing medical care to Pittsburgh’s unsheltered homeless population back in 1992.
Now, he’s hoping to bring what he calls “street medicine” to Erie. That involves taking a backpack of sorts around the city to the homeless community that sleeps on the streets instead of in shelters.
Wither’s street medicine program is called Operation Safety-Net. He was a CNN Hero in 2015.
