When you’re in the middle of an attack, it’s difficult to remain calm, but experts suggest to try and focus and get to safety immediately.
Retired FBI Agent and Professor at Gannon University, Dr. Jerry Clark, says it’s important to remain vigilant and check your surroundings, no matter where you may be. Look for the closest exits and plan an exit strategy in case violence breaks out.
Clark says, “For a mass shooting like this where multiple rounds are being fired, it is really intense and you want to panic and the main thing is to remain calm and move as quickly as you can and assist as many people as you can.”
Clark also says to report anything that looks suspicious to law enforcement, no matter how small it may seem.
The saying remains true — if you see something; say something.
