The city of Erie’s plan for Community Development Block Grant funding has the final stamp of approval.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development approved the plan with five days to spare and now Congress is working to appropriate the funds.
Youth centers had previously been given the go-ahead to spend HUD funding, soon money for public facility improvements, housing rehabilitation and code enforcement will be able to do the same.
“We are excited that this plan got put through and we are already in discussion about how to move forward for next year,” said Alison Schmidt, of the Economic and Community Development.
The city expects money to be distributed in mid-August.
