At Saint Peter Cathedral in Downtown Erie, a holy week tradition is renewed.
The chrism mass was led by Bishop Lawrence Persico who also performed the blessing of the oils. Parishes and priests around the Diocese will be given the oil to use for sacraments including baptism and annointing of the sick. Hundreds of people were on hand tonight.
“Every sacrament comes from this mass, so, it’s nice to see people want to be here. We have many children and that’s good. It’s nice to see a full turnout like this,” said Matthew Clark of the Erie Catholic Diocese-Office of Worship.
The oil blessed tonight will be used for the next year.
