We can now see from the outside some of the progress being made to the former Sherlock’s and Park Place Properities.
In terms of the exterior, the notorious Sherlock’s balcony is the first to go.
The CEO of the Erie Downtown Development Corporation (EDDC) says they’re in the process of simple demolition work.
“As you can see the building is in need of a lot of TLC, and before we can get to a lot of re-development, we had to get rid of some of the items that were already here — the stage, the balcony, the mezzanines that were inside,” said John Persinger, the EDDC CEO.
The ground floor alone is about eight-thousand square feet.
Mayor Joe Schember says he’s pleased with the work so far.
“It’s really exciting, everything going on in Downtown Erie. The EDDC is doing a great job in their 14-block footprint there, but everyone in Downtown Erie is really collaborating and cooperating and working together, trying to make Erie better,” said Schember.
The plans for the space are still unknown, but Persinger says it’s the perfect spot to bring new life to city.
“It’s a historic building, built sometime in the 19th century. It overlooks North Park Row. So there should be a lot of life in this building. It should have great potential. We’re working on bringing that potential to Erie,” said Persinger.
Crews don’t have a timeline solidified yet, but Persinger tells us they have a lot of work ahead of them.
Tuesday morning the EDDC is expected to make announcement about another major purchase.
