Investigators look into chemical leak at Erie Coke

Local News

State investigators spent part of a second day at Erie Coke amid reports that a tank containing caustic chemicals is leaking.

So far, the Department of Environmental Protection has said little about what is happening other than to confirm that they are on the scene and that so far, none of the chemicals have gotten into lake water.

Other media reports say it’s believed the tank has hydrochloric acid among the chemicals involved, but a spokesperson for the DEP did not confirm that to JET 24 by news time.

A renewed request for more information was made late this afternoon and we’ll tell you more as we hear it.
