ERIE, Pa. — Erie County Councilman Jay Breneman announced his run for Erie mayor Wednesday.

Breneman said he will seek the Democratic nomination for mayor of the city of Erie in 2017.

“We need a mayor who will work for all of the residents of Erie and someone who will work to defend the jobs we have while attracting new jobs, and new residents, to the region,” Breneman said.

The official announcement will come on Nov. 11 at Wayne Park.

“That is why I will announce my candidacy for mayor this Veterans Day, as a continuation of my commitment to serving Erie,” Breneman said.

Breneman, who was elected to County Council in 2013, is a Mercyhurst University graduate and has served nearly seven year in the army after Sept. 11.

Current Mayor Joe Sinnott has reached the three-term limit, serving 12 years, so he cannot run again in 2017.
