On Friday, September 15, 2017, one week before trial was scheduled to begin, Jeffrey Sandusky, 41, of State College, entered a guilty plea to every count charged against him, including Solicitation to commit Statutory Sexual Assault, Solicitation to Commit Involuntary Deviate Sexual Intercourse, two counts of Solicitation to Commit Sexual Abuse of Children, two counts of Solicitation to Photograph; Videotape; Depict on Computer; or Film Sexual Acts, six counts of Unlawful Contact with a Minor, and two counts of Corruption of Minors.
Sandusky’s father, Jerry Sandusky is a convicted serial rapist and child molester. Jerry served as assistant football coach at Pennsylvania State University from 1969-1999.
The terms of the plea guarantee that Sandusky will undergo 3-6 years of state incarceration, but allows the judge to impose as much as 4-8 years of state prison in her discretion at the time of sentencing. The Commonwealth will seek a 4-8 year state prison sentence due to the nature of the crimes charged. As a result of these child sex convictions, upon sentencing, Sandusky will automatically become the highest Tier, (Tier III) Sex Offender in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Tier III Offenders, like Sandusky, must register their home, work, and school address as well as his vehicle information with the Pennsylvania State Police every three months for the rest of his life. Sandusky will also be evaluated by the Sexual Offender Assessment Board to determine whether he meets the criteria to be a Sexually Violent Predator as defined by the Sex Offender Registration Act.
Pennsylvania State Police at Rockview began an investigation when victim #1, a 16-year-old minor known to Sandusky, reported that in March of 2016, Sandusky sent the victim text messages asking for nude and sexually explicit photographs. Although the victim refused to send Sandusky the photographs he demanded, he became more insistent, badgering her to comply over a two-day period. Sandusky sought pictures of her “pissing”, dressing, naked body parts and nudes. Sandusky instructed the victim in follow-up texts to delete the messages and to not tell anyone. The minor eventually told her Mother and showed her Mother the text messages. Investigators successfully recovered the text messages, confirming the victim’s report. During that investigation, victim #2, also well known to Sandusky, disclosed to police that Sandusky solicited her through text message to perform oral sex on him several years ago when she was only 15 years old. Both girls viewed Sandusky as a trusted authority figure.
District Attorney Stacy Parks Miller said, “While we were fully prepared to proceed to trial, today’s guilty plea to all charges ensures a significant prison sentence for Defendant’s solicitation of child sex crimes with two minors that once completely trusted him. This outcome also ensures the victims need not suffer the trauma and revictimization of testifying at trial and importantly, the Defendant will have to comply with strict sex offender registration requirements for the remainder of his life. We are happy that these girls can move forward and experience a life with adults that deserve their trust.”
