After months of waiting, officials are announcing that the JMC Ice Arena will not open this season.
The Executive Director, Scott Mitchell, says they’ve exhausted all options. He tells us the piping beneath the rink is leaking. The 30-year-old facility is beyond repair, but Mitchell says they’re looking into purchasing a new rink down the line. “We’ve already begun to get some pricing and some of those things to replace the system, so we would take out the boards, the floor, the ceiling, everything and start all over again with a new system.”
Mitchell says a new rink would cost around $2 million. He tells us his staff and refrigeration contractors went above and beyond trying to find a solution.
