ERIE, Pa. — National Philanthropy Day is Tuesday, a man who has been fundraising for his alma mater for nearly 50 years will be honored.
Joe Gaeta attended Gannon University on a basketball scholarship and after graduating in 1962, he began fundraising. He eventually co-founded the Gannon Golden Knight Club.
“For me it’s been payback,” Gaeta said. “It’s my payback for giving me a free education for bouncing a basketball. That to me is tremendous.”
Gaeta is one of five award recipients who will be honored at the 2016 National Philanthropy Day Recognition Luncheon on Tuesday.
