ERIE, Pa. — A dispute over hiring an entry-level teller in the city treasurer’s office made its first appearance in court Friday morning.
Judge William Cunningham denied City Solicitor Greg Karle’s preliminary objections on behalf of Erie Mayor Joe Sinnott.
Cunningham said that Sinnott has no standing or authority to hire in the city treasurer’s office, stating that under state and local law, the treasurer is authorized to appoint her employees.
Karle now must file an answer to Rick Filippi’s argument befor Cunningham makes a final ruling.
Filippi, who is representing City Treasurer Susan DiVecchio, filed a lawsuit in June after Sinnott and DiVecchio couldn’t come to an agreement over who should hire the vacant teller position.
Filippi is hoping the ruling will come before Thanksgiving.
