Knockout Homelessness, Round 12, set for February 19th

Local News

Community leaders are once again raising money to help people in need by facing off in the boxing ring.

Community leaders gather at the Ringside Restaurant to announce the line-up for the Erie City Mission’s Knockout Homelessness, Round 12.

Over the last 12 years, the event has raised more than half a million dollars.  This year, Erie Mayor Joe Schember will be returning to the ring, this time to face Lou Bizzarro in a boxing match.

Bizzarro, Owner of the Ringside Restaurant, tells us, “It’s a community affair. We want everybody to get together and to help out.”

Steve Westbrook, Erie City Mission CEO, says, “It’s a unique way to help those that are in desperation. It goes directly toward our shelter program for men at the Erie City Mission and, yeah, it means a ton. Everyone is supportive and it’s a lot of fun and it raises the awareness of homelessness in our city.”

The event will be held on February 19th at the Bayfront Convention Center.
