It was a bitter sweet day at St. Peter Cathedral School on Monday.
The downtown school, located at 160 W. 11 St., held graduating exercises for its final eighth-grade class.
“I always enjoyed my times here,” said Lucy Wiesner, a St. Peter’s grad. “I think it’s just the way the trends are going through the town.”
The school will close for good on Thursday as part of a reorganization of parish schools within the Catholic Diocese of Erie.
“Without the school, it’s going to take away a lot of the parishioners,” said Meredith Wiesner, a graduate of St. Peter’s.
“It’s time to look forward and move on and celebrate Catholic education in its new form in Erie,” St. Peter’s Principal Mary Gibson said.
