Legislators look to study Chronic Wasting Disease in Pennsylvania

Chronic Wasting Disease

Pennsylvania State Rep John Joyce is co-sponsoring a bill to provide funding for a study of Chronic Wasting Disease.  Over the last several decades the deadly illness has spread to 24 states in the U.S.  A growing number of deer, elk, moose and similar animals, (of the cervid fmily), have been documented as falling ill to the disease.  Some experts have also expressed a fear that the neurodegenerative disease could eventually spread to humans.

Legislators hope the study could result in a cure for the disease.  Another plan some have suggested is killing off large populations of the animals to help slow the spread.
