Local band discovered on internet, releases debut single

ERIE, Pa. — Three Guests released the music video for their debut single “Marilyn” on May 12.

In less than a week, it garnered more than 120,000 views on Facebook.

The group consists of Erie natives and friends Ben Waldee, Noah DeVore, both 18, and Jordan Rys, 19.

Rys and DeVore told JET 24/FOX 66/YourErie.com that their music is inspired by their lives.

“It included all of our lives and parts and relationships and heartbreaks, but the main core of the idea is that anyone could be Marilyn Monroe and that beauty is in the eye of the beholder,” said Rys.

While the artists described “Marilyn” as leaning toward pop, they said much of their music blends genres.

“We kind of call it smooth Hip Hop with this little R&B feeling to it with a little pop–the catchiness–but completely different,” explained DeVore.

That different sound is what helped them grow their international, internet fan base and caught the attention of TuneGo Inc. last year. The music platform that connects independent artists with fans and industry professionals signed the group as the first act on their new record label, TuneGo Music Group.

“All we had was just basement music and nowhere to really go,” said Rys. “We just stumbled across TuneGo and signed up not expecting much. And we uploaded some of our music and soon enough… actually, really quickly, they noticed us.”

Since then, Three Guests has been making studio recordings in Las Vegas; and in February, filmed their “Marilyn” video in Los Angeles.

But it all started with dedication to their craft in Rys’ McKean Township basement.

Rys and DeVore were friends who attended church together. Waldee moved into DeVore’s neighborhood. The teenagers became mutual friends and discovered a common interest: music.

The group formed in 2015 with the members writing their own lyrics, making their own music, and developing the name.

Inspired by faith.

Three Guests said their band name is based on the belief that this world is a temporary home. DeVore and Rys said they are guests on Earth.

DeVore said during one’s time here, it is important to make a difference in the world.

He added, “If you work hard, you’ll make it. It’s a matter of your work ethic. When preparation meets timing, it’s just called luck and it will happen.”

Three Guests planned to host a private party with family and friends Friday to celebrate the release of their single.
