Bernie Sanders has announced that he is officially running for president once again. Despite losing last year’s democratic nomination to Hillary Clinton, he’s jumping in once more. The 77 year old is just the latest of almost a dozen democratic cendidates who have announced campaigns for the White House.
Jim Wertz, Head of the Erie County Democratic Party says despite the crowd, Sanders have a good chance this time. “Most of the candidates who have popped up so far poll pretty low. Bernie is really the only candidate with kind of a 50-state infrustructure already in place,” said Wertz.
Joe Morris, Chair of the Mercyhurst Political Science department adds, “[…] [O]ther candidates that are over there now have to contend with another one that’s just like them. So I think it’s going to be interesting to see what impact this has on the field.”
Regardless of who you’re rooting for in 2020, the weeks leading up to the primary election in May are sure to be interesting.
