Local man makes national headlines following elections

Local News

An Erie man winning a seat as an Erie City School Director has made national headlines.

“This is what I know how to do.. is to fight for kids who kind of get pushed aside.”  Tyler James Titus works as a therapist for kids at Harborcreek Youth Services.  Just last night, voters chose him to fill a seat as an Erie City School Director.

Titus is anxious to jump right into the position that has now gained him some national attention.  Why?  Because Tyler Titus is transgender.  He’s one of three trans. people elected to positions across the country.

“I really thought that I was going to get a lot more slack in Erie,” says Titus, “but the people stood behind me and they really believed in what I stood for… and gender became a non-issue. National headlines kind of took to the gender stuff, but Erie really just kind of saw me as Tyler.”
