Quick thinking in a workplace emergency can save a life, which is what happened July 1st in General Electric’s Health and Wellness Area.
Health and Fitness Professional Kim Turner was in the area when she heard a call for help. Gary Snyder and his wife were in the gym when Gary started having trouble due to multiple heart blockages.
Kim instructed one bystander to call 911 and another to get a portable defibrillator nearby. She used the equipment and CPR to revive Gary, earning her the American Heart Association’s Heartsaver Hero Award.
Communications Director of the American Heart Association, Sean Dreher, says, “They’re very self-explanatory so whenever you see someone have an incident like this you can just grab the AED, put it on their chest and it will literally walk you through the steps in order to try and restart that individual’s heart.”
Gary Snyder says “that was incredible. My cardiologist told me that without that I would not have been here.”
Kim told us she normally doesn’t work Saturdays and feels fortunate she could be there when Gary really needed her.
