Tense moments this afternoon at Erie High School after a student thought she saw a firearm.
The high school on lockdown around 12:45 this afternoon as police investigated the incident. According to a district spokesperson, a student thought she saw a weapon and sent a text message to a family member. After a relative called 9-1-1, city and district police searched the building and determined the claim to be unfounded.
Around 1:20, the police gave the all-clear.
Spokesperson for the Erie School District, Daria Devlin, says, “They thought they saw something. The family member obviously panicked and called 9-1-1. So, police have to investigate at that point. We have to put the school on lockdown when that happens, but as soon as it was determined it was not credible, the lockdown ended.”
Multiple Erie School District Police Officers were reportedly already in the building, as assigned. The district says there are protocols in place for such situations.
