Long-time associate of the president, Roger Stone, arrested last night

Local News

Roger Stone, a long-time associate of President Donald Trump, was arrested overnight in Fort Lauderdale.

Stone has been charged with seven federal felonies: obstruction of an official proceeding, five counts of making false statements, and one count of witness tampering.

In the court documents, the special counsel’s office wrote that after Wikileaks began releasing internal Democratic National Committee emails in the summer of 2016, an unidentified “Senior Trump Campaign Official was directed to contact Stone about any additional releases and what other damaging information [Wikileaks] had regarding the Clinton campaign”.

Prosecutors say following that contact, Stone told the Trump campaign about potential future releases of other damaging material.
