Though there are a lot of free and fun things to do on Presque Isle State Park, let’s not forget the programs at Oil Creek!  Below is a list of free programs offered by Oil Creek State Park for the month of July!

July 1:  Birds of Prey

Join us at 1:00 PM in observing and learning about LIVE BIRDS OF PREY from the Tamarack Wildlife Rehab and Education Center. This is a Friends of Oil Creek State Park sponsored program and is FREE, the program will end at 2:00 PM. Meet at the Wildcat Hollow Parking Area in Oil Creek State Park. 

July 6:  Kids Wildlife Safari 

Time: 9:30 AM – 12:00 PM

Meet at the Park Office for a morning of fun! Kids will have the opportunity to experience Pennsylvania wildlife including mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and more! They will even get the chance to explore Historic Oil Creek. It is recommended to bring a swimsuit, towel and extra clothes. 15 kids maximum and parents must be attentive, register now.

July 7:  Pioneer Waterfall Hike

Time: 9:30 AM – 1:30 PM

Join us for a beautiful hike into a remote area of the park. This is considered a moderate hike as we will climb several hundred feet and some rough terrain. This is a 5 mile hike so wear good footwear, bring plenty fluids and a lunch for when we break and a rest at the falls. Meet at the Oil Creek State Park Office where we will take a short drive to the Benninghoff Trailhead. 

July 8:  Kayaking  101 

Time: 10:00 AM – 2:30 PM

Meet at the PA Fish and Boat Commission Launch on Elk Street in Franklin, Pa at 10 AM and we will provide transportation to the old Oil City Marina. We will float 7 miles from Oil City to Franklin and be done at about 2:30 PM. We can provide all necessary equipment including kayak & training. Please bring appropriate clothing, lunch, sun – screen, bug spray, Fishing pole (if you wish) and your spirit of adventure.  No prior experience needed. Must be 15 or older. Limited to 15 persons. July 21:  Tails on the Trails

Time: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Bring your furry friend or just yourself and join us at the Cross Country Ski Area for an enjoyable dog walk. This Approx. 3 mile hike provides a great opportunity to exercise your dog, learn about the forest, and also the environmental hazards your dog faces while exposed to the outdoors.  All dogs will be required to be on a 6 foot leash, and must be friendly to other dogs and dog owners. Only 1 dog per person. Registration is required, Maximum 15 dogs. Call now.


July 22:  Kids Crayfish Catch

Time: 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM

Kids will be using bait, and fishing nets to catch crayfish in Oil Creek! Join us at the Egbert Farm Small Pavilion. Kids will be in the water so bring swimsuits, towels, sunscreen and extra clothing. Limited to 15 children and parents must attend. All other bait and gear will be provided. July 27:  Full Moon Night Hike

Time: 9:30 PM – 11:00 PM

Join us at the Blood Farm Parking Area at 9:30 pm for a fun filled night under the Full Moon!  Historical Blood Farm Trail is an easy, flat 3/4 mile loop that provides the opportunity to see and hear all sorts of wildlife.  Families are encourage to come and experience the historic area

July 28:  Kids Catching Stream Critters

Time: 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM

At 9:30 AM join us at the Blood Farm Parking Area for a day in the stream.  Children will get the opportunity to practice their own stream study.  Oil Creek provides the capability of finding and catching all sorts of stream wildlife.  Bring a swimsuit, towel, sunscreen and an extra change of clothing. The program is FREE and NO registration required, parents however must attend.   

July 29:  Kids Love Animals

Time: 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Meet at the Blood Farm Area at 10 AM on July 29th for a fun time learning about Oil Creek State Park Wildlife. Learn about insects, birds, amphibians, stream creatures and mammals. The kids will be exploring the stream so bring shoes (closed toed) that they can get wet and water clothes. Bring bug spray, sun screen and water.

17 June    11:00 AM – 12:00 PM    Wildlife and Wildflower Hike

Come explore the Historical Blood Farm Trail at Oil Creek State Park. On this easy, family-friendly hike get to know the wildflowers, wildlife, and habitat that resides here.  Meet at Blood Farm Parking area, bring bug spray and dress for the weather!     Park Office (814) 676-5915

21 June    1:00 – 2:30 PM    Catching Creek Critters

Meet at the Park Office for an exhilarating experience for your family.  Have the opportunity to catch native fish and macroinvertebrates, utilizing electro shock methods and netting.  You will be in the water, so bring clothes you do not mind getting wet! 23 June    7:00 – 8:30 PM    Beaver are Back

Join us at Oil Creek State Park Office, for a presentation on the North American Beaver then and now!  As the night proceeds investigate an actually ecosystem created by beavers in the park, and HOPEFULLY see a busy beaver in action.  Carpooling may be necessary, and bring bug spray!    Park office (814) 676-5915

24 June    1:00 – 3:00 PM    Outdoor Photography Program

Meet at the Park Office to learn about wildlife photography.  Join Kirby Neubert from North Country Creations to learn more about the area and also the tips and tricks of photography in the outdoors.    Park Office (814) 676-5915

30 June    10:00 AM – 12:00 PM    Archery 101

Meet at the Egbert Area for the chance to learn safety skills, history and shoot a compound bow.  You must be 10 years of age to attend. Register now! Limited to 12 participants.  See you soon!    Park Office (814) 676-5915
